Get Rid of Junk Mail! Three Easy Steps to Ridding Your Life of Paper Mail and Inbox Junk

How to Get Rid of Junk Mail

There are a few easy ways to reduce the number of emails and postal mail that you receive on a day to day basis. You could tackle them one by one – opting out – or you could use a service to stop what’s currently hitting your inbox and avoid future mailings. The way you handle this depends on the type of offers you’re getting, but let’s run through a few things real quick.

  1. Email Offers. If you’re getting service offers, one website you should take a look at is the opt-out section of the Data and Marketing Association. Participating marketers and services in this program honor the preferences you set out within your account on the site. This site is used to help cut back the amount of junk mail you receive in your email inbox.

  2. Pre-Qualified Offers in Mail. If you’re sick of getting prequalified offers on credit cards and loans in the mail, the credit agencies have a website set up where you can opt-out of receiving loan or credit offers. By utilizing the opt-out pre-screen, you'll receive less of those pre-qualified offers for credit cards and have less junk mail in your mailbox.

  3. Catalog Unsubscribes. Another service to look at is Catalog Choice. They boast a database of almost 10,000 items you can opt-out of from clothing brands and credit card companies to charities.

When it comes to getting too many junk emails, if it’s a reputable company, they will have an unsubscribe link. It’s usually at the bottom of the email saying "opt-out" or "unsubscribe". If there’s no link and it’s more like spam, marking it with a spam filter within your email service or program should help.

Another trick that we have taken advantage of is creating a rule to filter emails. Basically, you create a rule where anytime the word "unsubscribe" is in an email, it sends the email to a separate folder called "Unsubscribe Folder." Then you can access the emails when you want to without them filling up your inbox! You can do this with all the major email domains - yahoo, gmail, etc.

Hopefully, this has helped you to clear your digital clutter as well as your mailbox junk mail. You'll also end up receiving tons of advertisements for insurance and other spam when your mortgage is filed with the city clerk's office. This is somewhat unavoidable, but know that Parish Lending will not be sending you tons of paper mail after getting your new loan.
